Project 365 6-29-2010 Frustration

Deadlines.

Right now deadlines are the bane of my existence.

I used to really like deadlines.  I work well under pressure.  It takes away the luxury of of worrying about a decision, you kind of just have to go with your gut.  I like making decisions.  I can live with making decisions even if they might not have been the best decisions, but what I can’t do is make other people make decisions any faster than they do and it is frustrating the hell out of me.

There’s only so much you can do when you’re frustrated: engage the feeling of frustration, engage the reason for the frustration or ignore the frustration.  I get a bit of an energy surge when I engage “feeling” frustrated.  It gets me fired up and usually means another task gets completed.  When I can I engage the reason for the frustration, usually if it is a person.  Meeting it head-on usually means that whatever the problem is will be solved or at least identified as a problem that needs addressing and having things come to a conclusion is better than letting them sit and get worse.  But, when neither other option is available or has worked you’re stuck with ignoring the frustration.

I went through all three phases of this today.

Between the wedding, the show and three different movie projects all waiting on other people Rene and I are just about at our wits end.  Around the corner is either paradise or tragedy and we don’t know which one it will be.

I keep re-writing the next section of this blog and it keeps coming out like a “Gipper” speech.  It’s horribly cliche and doesn’t even come to saying what I want to get across so I’m going to quote my Twitter instead, “I’ve never let anything stop me from doing what I want & I refuse to let that start now.”

Today’s picture is of my bag:

It is what I carry my business around in.  It was with me all day today ready to be opened, even though I didn’t open it until very late at night.  It is starting to show the signs of it’s travels: a “D” clip from Sundance here, a luggage tag there, distressed leather in the spots where it rubs against my belt loops.  I kept hoping that during my day I would find the time to use up some of this frustration energy that has been building up, but it didn’t quite work out.  Now it’s just patiently waiting for tomorrow when I wake up.

It’s getting a lot of use then.

See you tomorrow.

Project 365 6-28-2010 The Road & Dirty Windows

I really need to wash my car!

Seriously, the dirt is starting to crust on it and I’m pretty sure that’s bad.

Well, maybe not bad, bad but having constantly dirty windows gets pretty dangerous.  I even clean them, almost daily, but something happens at night!  There must be extraordinary dew forming in the morning, but just enough to pool all the dust from the summer days on the windows of my car.  I was joking with Rene that I now have tinted windows just from the dust.

Today’s picture was intended to be an image from my typical commute home from the school and should look like this:

But when I took the first picture the flash was still on and it reflected off the windshield and looked like this:

That’s not just glare, folks, that’s filth.  I think a car wash and an oil change are in the cards for tomorrow.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 6-27-2010 Babies.

Today, after school, Rene and I went to Disneyland to visit with our friend Erik and his baby, Lucy, since they are moving away to Washington.  I’ve never been all that comfortable will very small children.  Until they reach walking age I always feel like I’m going to break them.  Don’t get me wrong, I love kids!  Tiny babies are cute and adorable when they aren’t crying and in spite of my fears of breaking them I do hold and play with them.  Lucy, though, is a pretty neat baby.  At ten months she’s starting to talk, she walks and kind of sings – well, warbles in an attempt to sing.  Both of her parents are theater folks and it has already shown in her tiny personality.
Today’s picture is of me with Lucy:

I think we look cute.  I’m told that I look good with a baby in my arms and people keep asking Rene and I when we’re going to start having babies.  I tell them we have a dog.

Now I just tripped myself out about babies.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 6-26-2010 Amber’s Batchelorette Party

My friend Amber is getting married and she’s a member Improv Shmimprov so a bunch of us boys came together for her batchlorette party and did our best to give her a great last night as a single woman!

We played marriage-centric improv games and she wore a tutu.

Nate did a strip tease…

…with fishnets and a corset.

He also smuggled a sausage in his pants.

It was very funny.

Ryan Clark and I had to mime Olympic luge and it looked like this:

The last one is, technically, the pic for today.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 6-25-2010 Friday

Today was weird.  Lot’s of energy, lot’s of ideas, but not a lot of places to put it.

That’s not true, there are actually too many places to put it and I didn’t know what to focus on.

Instead I just focused on finding financing – but with creative ideas!

It was a far cry from what my creative muscles wanted to be doing, but no crying over spilled milk.

It did lead me back to my favorite phrase to ever be put on a button though:

The weekend is full, but I’ve got plans for next week.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 6-24-2010 Brain Percolatin’!

Finally feeling better – not 100%, but definitely way better!

Now that I’m feeling better my brain has been going!  Rene and I were texting and the ideas were just flowing back and forth.  It was nice!

As nice as ideas are, action is better and is usually the thing lacking between dream and goal.

I’m making goals.

Today’s picture is of my head:

Ideally there would be a cartoon cross-section of my head showing my brain and little images of all the ideas that Rene and I were talking about – but there aren’t so you’ll have to use your imagination.

I’ve got work to do!

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 6-23-2010 Still Sick, Kinda’.

Ugh, everything hurts.

Pain is no excuse to stop, though, so I’m still goin’ but I’m not feeling all that motivated to write.  No idea when I’ll actually post these.

Got a bag of footage and a hard drive for a new sizzle that I’m working on.  It’s also today’s picture:

See you tomorrow.

Project 365 6-22-2010 Sick.

Stomach flu.

It’s gross.

Here’s what I’ve been looking at for 5 1/2 hours:

See you tomorrow.

Project 365 6-21-2010 Editing

I don’t normally fancy myself as an editor.  I understand it and I know my way around most editing software but when it comes to the actual task of editing I prefer to hire someone on who really knows their stuff and can add something to the creative mix.

But when dealing with no budget and when it’s a pretty simple project there’s no reason not to do it myself, so that’s what I did today.  As Wiggy VonSchtick gets back on it’s feet I’ve started branching back out into doing the things that can earn money – even on the small level.  Sizzle reels have been a GREAT success and I’ve been contracted to do a few in just the last couple weeks.  Due to agreements I can’t share contents, but I can say that it has really helped get my creative juices flowing again.  I’ve been so tied up in the business of making movies that I forgot how much fun it is to actually shoot them.  Shooting stuff like this helps me remember.

I’m looking forward to some of the other  projects that we’ll be launching this year.  Things are looking good for Wiggy Web, our new media stuff, and we keep inching closer and closer to getting film funding not only for Cheerleaders Must Die! but a couple of the bigger projects as well!  It’s enough to keep me excited – even when things get beyond frustrating.

Today’s pic is of my edit screen, with a carefully placed flash to hide content:

See you tomorrow!
