Project 365 7-23-2010 Tired…

Business lunch, business calls, business everything.  The day on the whole came down as a wash, but next week is looking good.  Even though I can count the day as a wash it started with a healthy set-back, but that set-back helped to focus a few directions that I hadn’t considered before as well as reminding me of some obvious solutions that were always available, but not always affordable.

I’m done thinking about this today so I’m moving on.

Tonight Rene and I saw “The Producers” at The Maverick Theater and it was REALLY GOOD!  If you can get tickets (they’re selling out fast!) I highly recommend it.

After we talked to our friends for a bit and ended up being out later than I thought.

Today’s picture is a tired me:

Naturally I forgot to get out the camera when all the good stuff was happening, but this was the result at the end of the day.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-22-2010 There’s a whole lotta’ good!

What do planning a wedding, planning an elopement, having a business meeting overlooking the water and teaching all have in common?

This guy, this guy right here!

Yes, you read right, a wedding AND elopement!

We’re nothing if not thorough.

Backstory: Rene really wanted to be married at a winery, but that was not going to be possible with the budget that is available to us and that bummed her out.  The Hacienda was a wonderful second choice, but it always clawed at her that she wasn’t going to have her pictures in the vines.  Then it looked like we might have to cancel the ceremony completely and then it looked like we might only be able to elope… it was a mess.

Through some crazy math and parental intervention (thanks guys!) we were able to solve the wedding issues and that inspired Rene to take a stab at getting the winery wedding she always wanted – and she got it!  When Rene really wants something she’s really good at negotiating it out.  So, for virtually nothing, she’ll get all the pictures in the vines that she wants, a nice lunch and we’ll be with just a tight group of whomever can make it on that day.  It’s pretty neat.

On top of that we still get to have the wedding, wedding…

…shit there’s actually a lot that I have to do for that.

I should get on that.

Today’s picture is from my investor meeting this morning:

It’s tough to beat lunch and a good discussion overlooking the ocean.

Crap, I literally just thought about all the stuff we need to finalize in the next two weeks – it’s gonna’ be exciting!

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-21-2010 It is DONE!

Stuff happened today, blah, blah, blah…

None of that matters because today – after all kinds of wondering and changes of plans – we have a wedding plan that we can afford and is what we actually want!  Details later, I’m pooped.

Today’s picture is of one of the more ridiculous moments from Tom Baker’s time as Doctor Who that I found while reading my movie news:

Yes, that’s a minotaur.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-20-2010 Tuesday

Today is Tuesday of the unintended “Week of Getting Things Done!”  (Imagine the part in quotes in a booming, echoy voice.)

I wrote a to-do list on Sunday night of all the things that either need to be or I wanted to get done by Friday of this week.  It’s the whole sheet of paper and I’ve been adding a thing here or there as they come up.  As of this evening I have checked off about a third of it so if I keep up at this rate I should TOTALLY have the whole list complete by Friday!

By the way, totally off topic, my use of the word “totally” came back into the fold during the writing of “Stupid Teenagers Must Die!” when we were writing 80’s catch phrases and terms into the script.  Back then I figured that it might be a problem getting 80’s phrases stuck in my vocabulary but only one phrase stuck: “totally.”  I annoy myself at how often I use it, but at least I’m not saying “exactly” every other sentence like I was in 2005.

Anyway, back on task, originally the picture for today was going to be of the list that I’m doing so well on…

…but then I realized how much kinda’ personal information was on that sheet of paper so instead you get a cute picture of Pete the chihuahua chewing on his favorite toy:

Ain’t that cute?

The day today blew by like a flash and as I look back on it and try to think of interesting things to write about all I can remember are emails and the phone ringing.  And working out.  I feel very strong right now.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-19-2010 Monday, Monday, Monday!

Monday is the day that I set-up how the rest of my week is going to look – it is very possible that this is the same for all of you out there in blog-land.  As Rene & I get closer to a wedding and Zeke and I get closer to strangling people for not writing us movie making checks there has been a lot to plan out on Mondays and today was no different.

As I look at my calendar the days are starting to fill with meetings – that’s a good thing!

That and lot’s of wedding math.

I’d write more, but my attention is on the other stuff I should be doing so I will leave you with today’s picture:

Guacamole is delicious!

See you tomorrow.

Project 365 7-17-2010 Catch-Up

Sometimes you just need a day to get things back on track.  Today was that kind of day for me.  After school I went back home to wait for Rene to get back from her show, it was a good few hours.  In that time I listed the tasks that need to be done this week, reviewed a bunch of crap and discovered that even though I was catching up on my reading, I was now woefully behind again.  Now I’ve got a nice long list of shit to do, so I’ll take care of that this week.

Oh, and in reference to “things to do” one of those things is to plug Wiggy Webs the new YouTube channel for Wiggy VonSchtick!  Go to the Wiggy Blog to check it out.  The plan is to shoot and edit more content this week, but the way my plans have been going it might get pushed to next week.

When Rene did get home we visited our with our friend Emily at her going away party:

This is Emily with Rene and me.  Brian photo-bombed us.

Then we went home and went to bed.

Well, some of us went to bed a bit early:

(That’s a bonus picture!)

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-16-2010 How Is It Already Friday? or It’s Hot and I Hate Traffic

I spent a LOT of time in the car today which was OK because the car has air-conditioning.  You know where there wasn’t A/C today?  My meeting at Sunset-Gower Studios.  And it was hot.  Crazy hot.  Sweat rolling down your back into your butt hot.  To SGS’s credit they did their best to get the air blowing again, but it just wasn’t working.  Still, I was grateful for the meeting and the opportunities that rose from it.

Back to the car…

I always know when I’m driving too much and that’s when I actually listen to all of my podcasts.  I download a bunch of podcasts.  I download several about film making, podcasts to learn Japanese, comic book podcasts, a butt load of NPR podcasts… there are a lot.  I listen to podcasts in the car more than I listen to music which makes me feel old, but I’m informed so it’s cool.  Today I cleared a whole iPod.  Even after downloading today’s new ‘casts when I got home I still only have five left.  Traffic was abysmal and even though I really like my podcasts there are times when you’d rather be home than learning about the usage of the particle “go.”

Today’s picture is of the sky:

The cloud is misleading as it implies that there is moisture in the air and that it is a pleasant summer day when in fact it was as hot as a volcano’s ass crack.

See you tomorrow.

Project 365 7-15-2010 Getting Back On My Feet

It’s been a LONG time coming, but I’m finally getting back on my feet, like for real not just posturing, and it feels good!

There weren’t even, like, major changes that happened it’s just been little changes over time that are finally starting to bear fruit.

I was visiting the accountant today.  He was reviewing one of the business opportunities that I’m working on and all the news today was good or ways to make things better.

I liked that.

Even the couple set-backs that have popped up this week haven’t been as bad as they could be so here’s hoping that Friday delivers on all of its promise!

Today’s picture is of the faint rainbow that I saw at the end of the day:

It’s faint, but it’s there.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-12-2010 Motivated!

Today was a good day!

I like it when the week starts off with progress and today progress was made!  I started a new plan today to help get stuff on the old plan moving a little bit quicker.  Really a lot of this will be talked about in the Wiggy VonSchtick Blog later in the week, but it was nice to be motivated.

On a completely unrelated note, Frankie’s cousin, Roxy the mini-poodle, is staying with us.  She really loves Frankie and has been following him around all week.  She’s started to fall into his routine which includes being with him as he looks out the window – which is today’s picture:

I wish I could say more, but it will ruin the surprise!

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-9-2010 Red Carpet

Even though I haven’t been on anything new since 2006 I can still be considered a bit of a minor celebrity so from time to time it happens that I am invited to events that involve a red carpet.  Tonight Rene and I went to see the premiere of a new comedy called Stan.  I was actually there to support a new project that I can’t speak on yet (there’s still stuff to work out which, by the way, is becoming my least favorite thing in general with all projects right now) and so there are photographs of me floating around the internet.

The premiere was held at The Academy’s Linwood Dunn Theater off of Sunset and Vine in Hollywood.  Because it is owned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences there are Oscar statues everywhere!  Today’s picture of me next to one of them:

I’m not going to talk too much about the red carpet itself because there isn’t really all that much to talk about: you get your picture taken, somebody is usually taking video, the pictures end up on Wire Image and, if you’re news worthy, news outlets buy them.  It’s the vibe of the red carpet that is the interesting, if not completely depressing, part.

I’m going to try and talk about this as evenly and objectively because it is really easy for me to get flippant and glib and really snatchy when it comes to the over-all feeling at a red carpet.  With the exception of the people who are supposed to be at an event (cast and crew mostly) everyone else there who is hoping to get on the carpet is pretty much looking for publicity.  This includes both the people you would expect want publicity (celebrities) and those you’ve never heard of (wannabes).  Going forward I should make it very aware that I am NOT above these classifications.  For you “Sabrina” fans out there I might still be a celebrity, but to most of the rest of the world I pretty much fall into “wannabe” land.  I get it, I know it and because my lively hood isn’t completely dependent on everybody knowing who I am (although, frankly, it wouldn’t hurt) I’m just a little more immune to the effects of the carpet, if being immune means feeling REALLY out of place.  The worst thing about the carpet is the sense of desperation that permeates the air.  It really throws off the vibe of the whole room.  There are people who are there strictly to become famous no matter what the cost.  Let me be clear – the people I am talking about are not looking for artistic worth or to make a statement they want to be famous, just famous, and will go to virtually any length to achieve that goal.  It’s been a while since I’ve been on a carpet and it’s an easy thing to forget when you haven’t seen it in a while.  It really makes me uncomfortable and it sparks really awful instincts – instincts that the cattiest gossip monger would be proud of.  Of course being catty is just a defense mechanism.  There but for the grace of God go I should I ever take my eye off the ball.

The lie of fame is enough to blind even the most noble or intelligent of people.  It’s claimed more people than anyone would want to admit and it is showing no signs of slowing down.  As I stepped back into this aspect of the career I do it with a clearer head than I had over a decade ago when it seemed easier to do.  Thinking about it as a means to an end rather than as the end itself is a good way not to fall victim and I’m really glad to have Rene around to help keep me grounded.  All that being said it’s possible that there are going to be more of these events in my near future.  Hopefully all the work that is going into the project-that-cannot-be-named will pay off and I won’t be so out of place.  Even if it doesn’t it was nice to get back on the carpet again, warts and all.  Next time I’m getting Rene in pictures too, if she doesn’t mind.

See you tomorrow!
