Flaky.

I’m totally flaking out on tonight’s blog. I was writing a blog about habits, but it is getting bigger than I can finish tonight so I’m going to go sleep and hopefully finish it tomorrow.

See you tomorrow!

It was a little spanish flea in a Tijuana taxi having a Mexican breakfast.

“Tijuana Taxi” and “Spanish Flea.” These two songs caused a bit of a controversy today. I have been trying to remember how “Tijuana Taxi” goes for weeks, but I never remember to check when I’m actually at the computer – well today that changed. I often confuse “T.T.” with the melody for “Spanish Flea” and today, while I was printing out a proposal package, I played them both on YouTube. As it happens the rest of the group I was meeting with laughed at me for the “musical interlude.” I feel that Herb Alpert is under appreciated. The video for “T.T.” is, much like “Mexican Breakfast”, amazing! I love the way they used to do dancing videos in the 60’s. So I’m including these videos so you can share in my joy – even if everyone else I know thought I was weird today for spending so much time on it. I’m not weird, just particular and curious.

Where’s the Mountain Dew?

When you’re a geek, like myself, there are certain stereotypes that you must deal with. For example, gamer geeks, like myself, are not especially known for their hygiene, dietary habits or social abilities. Now, as with all stereotypes, there is some truth to that, but I can say, from my own experience, that a majority of the people that I have ever played games with have been delightful people that were an exception to the stereotypical rule.

However, you folks down there at ComiCon know that the smelly gamer/comic guy exists and they mass annually in San Diego. Right now, in fact! In honor of the brave souls sacrificing their sense of smell, and to all the gamers/comic guys be they ripe or pleasant, this video is for you!

It’s a classic that I was first introduced to in 2001 and is an animated version of the comic sketch ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ by the Milwaukee, Wisconsin comedy troupe, The Dead Alewives. It is from their CD ‘Take Down the Grand Master’. It was produced in 1996. The characters are from the game “Summoner.” I’ve never heard of the game except for this although I’m pretty sure it was released on the PS2.

Without any further ado, here’s “Dungeons & Dragons”…

Thank you Wired, but you’re blowing my mind!

I’m 32 years old. I’m not afraid to admit it. I know when this posts I’ll hear the vacuum of the gasps of other actors who can’t believe that I’ve actually posted my real age somewhere that it can be found (thank God I’m not an actress – someone might go into cardiac arrest!). I’m proud to be as old as I am and, quite frankly, am still pretty young, but when I saw this list of 100 Things Your Kids May Never Know About I was blown away by how much has changed in the last twenty years!

You expect electronics to change – look at the differences between the Sony Walkman and the iPod – but when you think about how many cultural things have changed with “appointment television” being a thing of the past and how far the Internet has come!

Check it out, get your mind blown, and if you don’t know what their talking about you’re too young!

See you tomorrow!

IT’S ALIVE!!!!

Today went by way too fast. It felt like I had my coffee this morning, put laundry in the washer and then had to leave to teach. When I work at day-jobs days like that are a blessing that you look forward to every time they happen, but when you are working for yourself and every minute counts days like this kinda’ suck. You don’t feel like you can get enough done, the phone calls can’t be made fast enough, it’s just a pain in the ass.

But I got to feel a sense of accomplishment today after all was said and done – I made Rene’s laptop completely functional again! Vista had a major crash a few weeks ago and Rene’s brother got it back to, essentially, a blank slate. She could use it, but there were no programs on it – no Office, no iTunes, just the Internet really. I have finished getting all the functionality back on this machine and it is running smoothly and awesomely.

Now I’m going to go get some ice cream.

See you tomorrow!

Movie trailers have come so far!

I was watching some old movie trailers and it amazed me how much this art form(?) has changed over the decades. Much like the difference between commercials now and then, the focus of movie trailers has gotten much more focused and succinct. There are plenty of examples of old school trailers, but this one from 1965’s Fahrenheit 451 I found especially telling.

Enjoy!

See you tomorrow!

Re-Boot

Today was my first real day back at work after falling to the Flying Monkey Flu last Wednesday. It’s nice to be able to hit the re-set button every once in a while, even when it is completely involuntary.

Even though most of my situations have not have changed I felt like I was approaching them from a new direction and it actually helped to brainstorm a few new ideas that led to some nice solutions. Maybe next time it can be a scheduled break involving some spa time or a casino.

Not that the idea of a vacation is new, I mean people have been taking vacations since there was such a thing as work, but to truly disconnect – that was the lesson revealed to me this last weekend. Now-a-days it is very hard to truly get away from it all with laptops, mobile phones and every other social media outlet there is out there. I never noticed the difference before but I get it now. I like being connected it helps me get things done and I’m happy when things get done, but I really felt my stress level drop when I couldn’t answer the phone and slept through most of the day. Not something you can pull off all the time, but I enjoyed my Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Now today I’m feeling much better and, while I’m still just a bit on the sick side, I’m back to work and things are getting done. And that’s good.

See you tomorrow!

Plague!

I have been sick for five days straight. This is very unusual for me. I was a sickly child. I had ailments that ranged from common colds to major ear infections to horrible bouts with chicken pox. One of my ear infections was so bad that I actually lost 1/3 of my right eardrum which was surgically replaced with a thin flap of skin from my ear lobe. Crazy, right? Because of that history I have the constitution of a horse in my adult life. I don’t usually catch the bugs that go around, but when I do they are a doozy.

This one was downright awful!

Sparing you the gory details I will only say that my throat felt like the pain equivalent of “2 Girls 1 Cup.”

Thanks to the miracle of 20th century medicine (read: antibiotics) I am finally on the road to recovery.

Comic book review catch-up blog coming soon!

See you tomorrow!

Casting, Editing and eBay

This last week I have been a busy little beaver! I was casting a print ad for Traveler guitars – it shoots tomorrow – and in perfect Hollywood fashion it came right down to the wire to make sure we had the talent we needed on time and on budget.

Result: Success!

Another project that I’ve been working on – really longer than it should have taken – is the editing of a demo reel for one of my students. It should have only taken a few hours to edit, title and burn the whole thing, but it was shot on DV tape and it took me a week to find someone with a DV deck that wasn’t a full-fledged post house. After all was said and done the video did get transferred and it is sitting ready in the editing computer waiting to be finished. But it isn’t finished yet. It’s a primary goal for Tuesday. Special thanks to Zeke Pinheiro, Rodney Wilson, Scott & Liz Sanford over at Wazza, Inc. for helping me get the video free from its magnetic bonds and to Hannah and her parents for their patience.

Result: Fail! – So far.

Also my eBay sales have been blossoming! I’ve been shipping all of the sold products and should have the final international items sent by Wednesday! The only problem has been putting up new items. I have BOXES of all kinds of stuff waiting to get posted, but I’ve been too busy to take the pictures I need – those photos should be finished by the end of the week. eBay is a wonderful, wonderful thing.

Result – Domestic eBay Sales: Success!
Result – International eBay Sales: Pending.
Result – New Posts: Fail!

Now I’m watching “Daisy of Love” and finishing up for the night. Why is this show so damn watchable?!?!?

See you tomorrow!
