Project 365 7-15-2010 Getting Back On My Feet

It’s been a LONG time coming, but I’m finally getting back on my feet, like for real not just posturing, and it feels good!

There weren’t even, like, major changes that happened it’s just been little changes over time that are finally starting to bear fruit.

I was visiting the accountant today.  He was reviewing one of the business opportunities that I’m working on and all the news today was good or ways to make things better.

I liked that.

Even the couple set-backs that have popped up this week haven’t been as bad as they could be so here’s hoping that Friday delivers on all of its promise!

Today’s picture is of the faint rainbow that I saw at the end of the day:

It’s faint, but it’s there.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-14-2010 Wanna’ Help Us Get Married?

What to write, what to write?

I’m not feeling the muse today and I’ve been sitting catching up on my YouTube subscriptions hoping that something would stimulate an exciting blog out of me.

It didn’t.

My mind is preoccupied by all the stuff that DIDN’T happen today and, in a totally unrelated way, the BP well cap that might or might not be working.

However, since I don’t have much else to write about tonight I would like to ask for your help!  Rene and I have entered a local radio contest to win a wedding!  We could really use the help because we’ve had to cancel the wedding we were planning – long story, not worth telling.  So please follow THIS LINK and vote for us!  They announce the top ten couples on Friday and we would really appreciate your support!

Today’s picture is of my empty juice cup:

Ever since I’ve stopped drinking soda my appreciation for juice has grown exponentially.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-13-2010 Doppleganger

I’m not going to be waxing poetic or anything on today’s blog, it’s all about the picture today.

Frankie and I are starting to look more and more alike – we even sleep alike:

See you tomorrow.

Project 365 7-12-2010 Motivated!

Today was a good day!

I like it when the week starts off with progress and today progress was made!  I started a new plan today to help get stuff on the old plan moving a little bit quicker.  Really a lot of this will be talked about in the Wiggy VonSchtick Blog later in the week, but it was nice to be motivated.

On a completely unrelated note, Frankie’s cousin, Roxy the mini-poodle, is staying with us.  She really loves Frankie and has been following him around all week.  She’s started to fall into his routine which includes being with him as he looks out the window – which is today’s picture:

I wish I could say more, but it will ruin the surprise!

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-11-2010 Double Fail!

Ugh!  I did it again!  I don’t know what it is about Sundays that has me forget to take pictures, but I did it again.  Rather than just be a shit and post an empty blog I thought I would revisit Friday July 9th.  I was pretty down on the whole Red Carpet thing, but  it is very affecting to be around that much desperation.  It’s one of the reasons that I can’t live in L.A. proper.  But L.A., and the whole evening, was not without it’s good points!  Stan, the movie that the red carpet was for, was very funny and we enjoyed it quite a bit and after the event Rene and I headed over to one of our favorite L.A. spots Miceli’s!  Miceli’s is one of the oldest restaurants in Hollywood and is just beautiful inside!  It feels like a little section of New York was transported into Hollywood.  Every time that we have been there we have seen the same employees and they have always been kind, generous and interesting.  There is a no cell phones policy so, even though the restaurant is smack in the middle of H’wood, there isn’t an H’wood douche vibe.

The food is fine, worthy of eating.  I really like their dinner salad and pizza, but I warn gourmets to go in with appropriate expectations.  The wine list is delightful and Rene and I pretty much keep to the Chiantis.  The real reason  to go is for the atmosphere, the live music and for a chance to visit a real Hollywood land mark.

In lieu of just one picture for today I present a photographic tour of our evening at Miceli’s:

Project 365 7-10-2010 Shmimprov, Karaoke & Surprise Nene!

Today was not so much a day as it was a night.

The day was a typical wake-up-teach-go-home day.  After class I ran up to L.A. to celebrate my friend Zeke’s birthday!  I thought I was going to use a picture from that as today’s picture, but I forgot my camera.  We had a lot of fun, but I had to beat feet at 8:30 to get back in time for the Shmimprov show that night.

It was a pretty funny show, even though I went off on an audience hating diatribe during Oscar Winning Moment.  We had recurring characters over a couple games, including me as a kangaroo.  Kinda’ had to be there.  I thought I would use a picture from that performance as today’s picture, but I forgot my camera.

After the show a pair of arms wrapped around me and scared the hell out of me!  Fortunately I noticed that the left hand was wearing a very familiar engagement ring.  Rene had surprised me by showing up during the show!  She herself had been in B.F.E. doing a show of her own and I didn’t expect to see her.  It was a very nice surprise.  I thought it would be nice to use a picture of Rene or Rene and I for today’s picture, but I didn’t have my camera.

Fortunately Rene had her camera and we stuck around for some karaoke after the show!  So today’s picture is of me signing a song:

I have no idea what song it was.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-9-2010 Red Carpet

Even though I haven’t been on anything new since 2006 I can still be considered a bit of a minor celebrity so from time to time it happens that I am invited to events that involve a red carpet.  Tonight Rene and I went to see the premiere of a new comedy called Stan.  I was actually there to support a new project that I can’t speak on yet (there’s still stuff to work out which, by the way, is becoming my least favorite thing in general with all projects right now) and so there are photographs of me floating around the internet.

The premiere was held at The Academy’s Linwood Dunn Theater off of Sunset and Vine in Hollywood.  Because it is owned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences there are Oscar statues everywhere!  Today’s picture of me next to one of them:

I’m not going to talk too much about the red carpet itself because there isn’t really all that much to talk about: you get your picture taken, somebody is usually taking video, the pictures end up on Wire Image and, if you’re news worthy, news outlets buy them.  It’s the vibe of the red carpet that is the interesting, if not completely depressing, part.

I’m going to try and talk about this as evenly and objectively because it is really easy for me to get flippant and glib and really snatchy when it comes to the over-all feeling at a red carpet.  With the exception of the people who are supposed to be at an event (cast and crew mostly) everyone else there who is hoping to get on the carpet is pretty much looking for publicity.  This includes both the people you would expect want publicity (celebrities) and those you’ve never heard of (wannabes).  Going forward I should make it very aware that I am NOT above these classifications.  For you “Sabrina” fans out there I might still be a celebrity, but to most of the rest of the world I pretty much fall into “wannabe” land.  I get it, I know it and because my lively hood isn’t completely dependent on everybody knowing who I am (although, frankly, it wouldn’t hurt) I’m just a little more immune to the effects of the carpet, if being immune means feeling REALLY out of place.  The worst thing about the carpet is the sense of desperation that permeates the air.  It really throws off the vibe of the whole room.  There are people who are there strictly to become famous no matter what the cost.  Let me be clear – the people I am talking about are not looking for artistic worth or to make a statement they want to be famous, just famous, and will go to virtually any length to achieve that goal.  It’s been a while since I’ve been on a carpet and it’s an easy thing to forget when you haven’t seen it in a while.  It really makes me uncomfortable and it sparks really awful instincts – instincts that the cattiest gossip monger would be proud of.  Of course being catty is just a defense mechanism.  There but for the grace of God go I should I ever take my eye off the ball.

The lie of fame is enough to blind even the most noble or intelligent of people.  It’s claimed more people than anyone would want to admit and it is showing no signs of slowing down.  As I stepped back into this aspect of the career I do it with a clearer head than I had over a decade ago when it seemed easier to do.  Thinking about it as a means to an end rather than as the end itself is a good way not to fall victim and I’m really glad to have Rene around to help keep me grounded.  All that being said it’s possible that there are going to be more of these events in my near future.  Hopefully all the work that is going into the project-that-cannot-be-named will pay off and I won’t be so out of place.  Even if it doesn’t it was nice to get back on the carpet again, warts and all.  Next time I’m getting Rene in pictures too, if she doesn’t mind.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-8-2010 Hungry!

One of the side effects of working out on the regular is an increased appetite!  I have found myself eating much healthier and much more on a regular schedule than I ever have in my life.  I actually eat breakfast now – and that’s something that used to require third-party intervention.

My current favorites, besides Rene’s delightful eggs and fakon (that’s fake bacon) are oatmeal and the blended breakfast things at Jamba Juice.  Right now Jamba Juice is running all kinds of specials too so eating there is suddenly very reasonable!

When it comes to dinner there is a food that has been my favorite since I was a kid: Spinach Tortellini in Alfredo Sauce from The Old Spaghetti Factory!  It’s the only thing I get when I eat there.  When I’ve ordered other things I’ve only been disappointed.

My parents got me an order of it tonight and surprised me with it.  I planned to take a picture of it but my work out appetite got the better of me so this was all that was left:

It doesn’t look as good once it’s all gone.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-7-2010 Workin’ & Workin’ Out

Today was a very busy day.

There were conference calls, a postponed conference call, more emails than I thought I’d have to write or read and teaching.

I had originally thought that I would work out this morning, but that didn’t happen.  I did get to enjoy oatmeal and a Jamba Juice this morning and that was nice.  I got back to my healthy eating today and, thankfully I did not suffer for my Western Bacon Cheeseburger indulgence last night.

My work out came instead tonight and I really pushed it and it felt really good.  Easing into my routine again is working much better than having a personal trainer kick my ass until I can’t move.

I enjoy moving.

Today’s picture is of my face once I got home:

I was tired – still am so I’m going to bed.

See you tomorrow!

Project 365 7-6-2010 Food Fail.

I’ve been so good about my eating.

Ever since my stomach flu a few weeks ago I’ve been very careful about what I eat and I’ve been off of soda and coffee, soda because it’s apparently very bad for you (and it hasn’t tasted right since I’ve been sick) and coffee mostly because of the horrible week of caffeine withdrawal that came from not drinking it on a regular basis.

But then came tonight.  I finished teaching at 8pm, picked up the camera for a new project at 8:30pm, had to stop at my post office box and left there around 9pm and then was on the phone in the parking lot with a colleague until about 9:30pm.

I was hungry and it was late.  I knew I was out of food at home so I’d have to stop and get something.  All the normal places I would have stopped at were closed.  I didn’t want to go to the grocery store and I had a craving – Western Bacon Cheeseburger.

I gave in:

We’ll see tomorrow if my system completely rejects it or not.

See you tomorrow!
