Mobile Blog: Excuses, Excuses…

It's been a long time since I posted. The original reason for the delay was a massive blog I'm working on about personal branding & social networking. I'm really pleased with it, but it isn't done.

Then I ran into some computer issues. Poor thing got a virus/malware &, even though I cleared it, my computer now freezes up after about five minutes use. Total bummer. So now it at Dr. Sanford's office getting a check up.

I've written it before, & I'm sure I'll write it again, the level of penetration into daily life that the computer has is astounding & only really noticeable when you don't have regular access to one. More importantly the penetration of the internet is like unto that of a porn star.

I have a commercial audition tomorrow. Only a year ago I would have gotten a call from my agent, been given all the info, confirmed & then written down the time in my calendar. Now I get a text message that I'll be receiving an email. That email has all the information I need as well as a link to the LA Casting website so that I can confirm I'll be there. If I don't have access to the internet I get the text & read the email on my Blackberry and then call my agent. Sometimes they sound surprised.

Admittedly this is a pretty new system, not even a year old yet, but it is so simple that it really has taken off. And it's only going to get more automated and more on the cloud as the future comes.

I look forward to the return of my desktop, and I'm putting in a special request to Santa for a netbook 😉

See you tomorrow (hopefully!)

In The Loop

"In the Loop" is a great political film and if this is how government is really run, and it wouldn't surprise me if it is, then we should all be terrified of every single member of all of the world's governments.

Not only is it a great political satire, but this movie is quotable in ways that are usually reserved for sci-fi movies and "Tombstone". Rene & I will now be referring to diarrhea as "ass spraying mayhem" and when discussing things that might be hard to do, "It isn't easy-peasey lemon squeezie! It's difficult, difficult lemon difficult!"

If you are a fan of Aaron Sorkin see this movie. If you are a fan of "The West Wing" see this movie. If you're pretty sure that the government lost it's mind some where in the late 40's or early 50's see this movie.

I also found it quite funny.

See you tomorrow!

Mobile Blog: Unintentional Coffee Talk

It has been an amazingly busy two weeks! Frankly I'm not even sure what I'm going to write about in this blog in particular. I have started 3 separate blogs all with different topics that I want to elaborate & include pictures on & 2 of them have trailers that I want to show, but I haven't made the time to finish them. Now I've actually got the time, but totally on accident & therefore am not in front of my computer & able to actually work on them.

I apologize if I ramble. I'm sitting in my car, listening to the CrankCast & feeling the last vestiges of a caffeine headache wisp away post 16oz 7-11 coffee. I'm a big fan of 7-11 coffee. It is surprisingly good & a whole lot cheaper than Starbucks. Although, it should probably be said, I'm not a very big fan of regular Starbucks coffee, it's too bitter for me, but the 7-11 blend is delightful. And they have a fun range of creamers (depending on location). I have developed my favorite mix: hazel nut coffee with 2 International Delights french vanilla creamers & 2 sugars. That combo is pretty reliably found in any 7-11 that I have been to. And it all costs less than 2 bucks! Even at 24 oz! That's a lot of coffee!

So, yeah, check it out. In these tough economic times good coffee at a low price is something all caff heads can appreciate.

Now I'm going to take my notes & write my roast for Drew Boudreau. By the way, Drew's Roast is this weekend. Come watch us rip him to shreds and then play improv games picked to make him fail.

It's gonna' be awesome.

See you tomorrow!

Mobile Blog: Oh Crap! My Computer is a Sad Panda.

Sorry for the short blog today. Over the holiday I tried to make the move to my new tower for my computer and, unfortunately, it didn't work. No one is sure why it didn't work. It should have worked, but such are the ebbs and flows of the universe.

Tomorrow Dean and I are going to try again. We have tools. We have parts. We have beer. Hopefully, tomorrow night, I will have a computer again!

In the pipe, provided I have the computer to write on: more comic reviews, movie reviews, updates about new projects(!) and more of the social commentary that has become so popular here and I'm clearly not doing enough of.

Have a great night, fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Mobile Blog: The Crystal Cave Incident

I am in the Sequoia National Park with Nene enjoying gigantic trees and the fresh mountain air.

I've never been to the sequoias before so this was a new experience for me. It really is an amazing feat of nature that these trees grow the way that they do. It looked like a Disney theme park trick or part of a themed land. The bark is so thick that when you know on parts of it the tree almost sounds hollow.

We also climbed to the top of Moro Rock, 4,000 vertical feet above the floor of the canyon and over 6,500 feet in elevation. What does that really mean? Really winding roads! Thank Zeus for not getting car sick!

There aren't a lot of attractions in the sequoias. There are the trees in general, and they are truly awesome in the actual meaning of the word, although they are so big it is actually difficult to grasp the scale of it all. When we visited the sequoia museum we saw a tree they call The Sentinel. It is a tree that stands over 257 feet tall and is about 28 feet wide – and this tree is used to illustrate an AVERAGE size of these amazing plants! When we got to General Sherman, the biggest living thing in the world by size (check wikipedia for a breakdown of how this record works), it stands over 275 feet tall and has branches that are as big as other large trees. Just amazing! There are also very large rocks, like Moro Rock (really part of a mountain), beetle rock and Tunnel Rock which you used to be able to drive through before they rerouted the road.

I have been feeling pretty out of shape and, when you see the pictures you'll see, I've totally got a gut. I'm all skinny fat right now. It's noticeable enough that I have to do something about it (as if a whole day's worth of hiking isn't a good start) but, even still, I found that it was really easy to run, jump and climb all over all kinds of stuff! It was a big relief since I was worried that I'd be huffing and puffing all trip.

All of these elements culminated when we got to the park visitor's center. One of the few major attractions that we planned to visit today was Crystal Cave. It requires tickets so we went to get them, but the Cave was closed. When asked the rangers would only reply that there had been an "incident" and the cave would not reopen until tomorrow. Naturally I, being a fan of solving mysteries, wanted to know more. Information was not freely given, but we did notice an awful lot of ranger activity, and a few arrests happening around the park. Being with family meant that I couldn't go completely Sherlock Holmes, but we plan to head to the cave tomorrow where I plan to solve a major crime, write a book and then get Robert Downey, Jr. to play me in the film adaptation.

I'll keep you in the loop!

See you tomorrow!

Mobile Blog Commercial Auditions

I have a strong grasp on the art of theatrical auditions. For those of you who may be uninitiated theatrical auditions are for TV & film, not actually theater as the name implies – although that may be different on the East Coast, but I don't know.

As I was saying, I've got a pretty good grasp on theatrical auditions but when it comes to commercials… Well that's a different animal entirely. I've done my share of commercials in the past, some campaigns that were pretty big! Got to meet Destiny's Child and was hit by a poison dart for Coke Zero. I even got crushed by a large concert goer for Tombstone Pizza, but I've never been able to consistently book commercials like some of my friends – which makes me incredibly jealous!

Oddly enough I seem to be able to teach how to book commercials because a whole lot of my students book right and left. I'm looking into a few commercial classes for myself to try and hone my skills and try and make that happen for myself. If you know of a good class please drop a link in the comments.

See you tomorrow!

Mobile Blog Tech Adoption

I'm sitting here in line for a car wash at the 76 station by my parent's house and I'm listening to an NPR Technology podcast. The story is about a guy who repairs iPods and other gadgets, but the iPods featured highly in the story. At the end he mentioned that he was, in many cases, giving people their music back and in some cases their sanity. I don't know why, but for some reason it made think back to when I got my iPod.

I have been rocking a 60 gig iPod Video since it came out. I have never been an "early adoptor" and I remember before I actually bought my iPod I asked everyone I knew who had one, posted bulletins on MySpace, and tried one at every store I went to trying to see if it was something I really wanted to invest in. It was really hard for me at the time to think about ditching all of my HUNDREDS of CD's. Now I can't imagine where I would even put all that plastic and I don't know why I waited.

Actually I do know why, I am not a big fan of being first. Ok, sometimes I am – like if I'm running a race or something – but when it comes to technology I am perfectly happy letting someone else beta test whatever new gadget is out there before I have to spend money on it. Especially now in a world where Microsoft and Apple – hell, any tech company really – will release things mostly done as opposed to actually done just to meet a release schedule. I can wait. When it comes to my tech I want the damn thing to work without an argument.

Worse yet it seems that lately early adoptors are getting the shaft, especially if you're an G1 iPhone user! It's a business model I don't understand but is becoming more and more of an everyday practice. When the revolution comes I hope that this is one of the first things abolished.

So now I'm going to pull in and get my car wash, listen to my technology podcast on my 2 generation old iPod and read the news on my 2 year old Blackberry and be happy that they work just fine.

See you tomorrow!

My computer pooped out randomly. I’m hoping this isn’t the sign of a bigger problem, I may need a new hard drive. Because of this the cool blog I was writing about the fair has not been posted. As soon as I can post it I will.
